My last post looking for a web security contractor turned up no leads. Since I've never hired anyone before, I guess I need to step back and ask the meta-question:

Where do you go to find a contractor to fit a specific need? Particular sites, forums, "I know a guy who knows a guy"? I'm sure some of my readers have been in managerial positions and know this stuff better than me.

I know a guy [livejournal.com profile] jvowles who does professional web development work. I doubt his contract will allow him to freelance (and if it did he's got other commitments to his job and as the VP of Otakon), but he might be able to point you towards someone who is able to help.

Hmm, I don't believe I know him. Could you ask him if it's okay to put me in contact with him?

Thanks!

Might be a silly suggestion, but maybe something like Angie's List or a pertinent version thereof?

It's entirely not silly, but I'm not sure what the pertinent version is. I'll poke at Angie's List, though...

Thanks!

So I asked in my group. The idea that was floated was for me to tweet it and to have some of the major security bloggers I know re-tweet the position. How comfortable are you with that idea?

Entirely comfortable. Saturday-morning-lying-in-bed comfortable.

Is this something Veracode could help with? (I know a few people who work there.)

Hmm, my boss already has someone lined up to do pen-testing, but the "developer coaching" Veracode offers looks like the right thing.

Thanks!

Most of our people go to either KFORCE, Experis or IBM for contractors -- I know the InfoSec group usually goes to KFORCE or Experis.

Not sure what kind of presence they have in Boston though. I haven't had any need for one so I haven't hired anyone.

I have worked out of John Galt and Winter Wyman though. As well as what is now RANSTAD.

Of course, going through a company means paying more money.

My boss wants to spend the necessary money, so that's not a problem. Thanks!
