Roo: Travel With Baby
Sep. 12th, 2012 09:56 amThis past week,
buxom_bey's uncle died, so we quickly made plans to visit upstate New York for the viewing and service. This involved a one-night stay at a hotel and a five-hour drive both ways, with baby toddler.
While she got a bit cranky towards the end of both trips, and clearly began to regard the carseat as a thing to be despised, overall she was astoundingly well-behaved. It was always possible for the adult in the back of the car with her to find some way to distract her eventually. At the viewing, she toddled all over the place in her new funeral dress and pink shoes, charming the heck out of everyone. (She kept making a break for the outdoors, but I can still outrun her.) At the church service, she was entirely mellow, and actually listened to the priest for a bit before dropping off in her mother's arms. She did fine in the hotel room and hotel crib, and seemed to regard a king size bed with pillows as an amazing toy, crawling all over it, hiding in the pillows, climbing on top of whichever parent was available, face-planting for fun, giggling like a loon.
Now if only she would stop poking at every electrical socket she sees. (Hint for parents: Keep some socket covers in your suitcase.)
