As usual, the country can be culturally divided as follows:
Northeast
South
Midwest
California

Also notice:
The two beer-producing capitals of America, St. Louis and Milwaukee, are epicenters of Soda-centricity in otherwise pop or coke counties;

Retirement areas Arizona and south Florida (where Yankees retire) are full of Soda-ers...

You're missing the deep cultural divide between West and Midwest simply because they both say "pop."

I do think it's interesting that the Mid-Atlantic states show up as an uneasy mixture of "soda" and "coke"; that reflects my experience of their culture.
