It's bouncing and rolling off my windshield, so I gotta assume that's hail...

Or sleet?

I think sleet bounces, too...

Probably not warm enough for hail. Probably sleet or freezing rain. But nuthin' good, anyway.

And then later, I have to run get the kid's homework from school (she's been out sick since Monday) and... There is small, slushy-hail that both bounces and splats on the windshield. It gets heavier, sort of like angry rain, and there are these huge SPLATS of snow drifting down amidst the rest.

I get to the school; the slush-from-the-sky is lightening. Run in, run out, and as I drive down the road... the sky is clearing up, there is bright sunlight, and just a mild drizzle.

...New England weather is freaky.

Sleet is basically frozen rain. Hail is larger balls of ice, and I've only ever seen it from severe thunderstorms.

The weatherman called it "gropples" -- which is apparently a real term.

Yep, I'm pretty sure that was a bit of hail. Though CEO is right sleet/ice will bounce too.

After the weather this winter, very little is surprising me.
