Seven hundred years ago today, Pope Clement V issued a papal bull ordering the dissolution of the Order of the Knights Templar.

And then they moved to Portugal, educated the prince who would become Henry the Navigator and got their crosses on the Portuguese ships exploring the globe.

If you ever get a chance, definitely check out their monastery at Tomar--it is one of the coolest places I've ever visited.
