One of my more pretentious FB friends made the obligatory "*I'm* not watching the SuperBowl, *I'm* watching Downton Abbey. *sniff*" posts, which struck me as ironic in that they were bragging about not just watching TELEVISION (gasp!) but also about a show that pretty much everyone on my friendlist across the spectrum of the bell curve seems to love unreservedly. I haven't had a chance to watch it yet but I've been really surprised at the amount of mainstream buzz.
I should have thought that Downton Abbey was more mainstream. I'm pretty sure I've seen Downton Abbey mentioned in Entertainment Weekly, which is pretty relentlessly mainstream.
