I just set up a new monitor. I'm still in that stage where I can't decide if it sucks, or if I just got used to how my old one sucked.

Heh!

If I had a dollar for every time I got that kind of comment from my users.

In my professional opinion, if it is a brand new monitor it is most likely the latter.

That's a normal stage? Every new monitor I've gotten in at least the past decade has made me say, "Wow, that looks so much better!"

Yes, this! (Although sometimes I need to figure out the right combination of video-card resolution and refresh and monitor settings to use the monitor's optimal resolution, and before that it looks crappy.) Is this on Windows or Linux?

Mine is with a Mac Mini. My last two new monitors were both Samsung flatscreens. The newest one gives me two pages width, which is an astonishing luxury when you're copy editor. . . .
