woodwardiocom: (Superman Action #1)

One of the problems I have with DC Comics' "New 52" reboot, is that Wally West (who was the Flash for the better part of the past 25 years) has vanished into discontinuity, and Barry Allen is back as the one and only Flash.

As part of my disgruntlement, I ran some numbers. Barry's first issue of The Flash (volume 1) was #105 (they continued the numbering from Jay Garrick's Golden Age title). The last issue of v1 was #350, so he appeared in 246 issues.

The Flash (volume 2), Wally's title, ran for 247 issues. So who's the real Flash, baby?

Edit: Other comics include...
Barry: One annual, two 80-page giants (reprint material, and not counting those giants that were part of Flash volume 1), regular member of Justice League of America.
Wally: Thirteen annuals, member of J.L. Europe, JLA, J.L. Elite, J.L. Task Force, Teen Titans, New Teen Titans, "just" Titans. Regular run included a #0, #1/2, #1,000,000. Two 80-page giants, three Secret Files, Speed Force special, Iron Heights special. Oh, and he appeared in many issues of Barry's book as well, hah!

Especially since Wally is used for JLU.

They did away with Wally entirely? I never liked him all that much, but that's a bit harsh.

He has not appeared as yet, and DC staffers refuse to comment. The rest of the Flash supporting cast has been similarly un-person'd or rebooted.

Any mention of Ralph and Sue Dibny?

Not to my knowledge.

Wally is how they're going to bring back the old DC universe when the new one stops selling. :-)

I KNOW. I was a huge Wally West fan, starting with him back in the Wolfman/Perez New Teen Titans. I can only hope that there's another Earth out there in the 52 Universes where Wally West and Donna Troy are doing their super-hero thing. (Plus whoever else got un-personed.)
