Sometimes Past-Jon Knew What He Was Doing
Oct. 24th, 2011 09:52 amAmong my projects this weekend (which included fixing one of the light pulls, trying to rig a new baby-distracter, and installing our picket gate with new hinges) was adding a couple gigs more memory to our HTPC, for the day when it becomes my main machine. The interior has always been a bit of a rat's nest. Two hard drives, floppy drive, DVD drive, a big ol' video card that will only go in one slot, etc. I decided on this occasion to Sort The Mutha Out.
...And everything ended up in the same place it started out. I couldn't move either of the HDs to one of the top bays, because they were the wrong form factor (note to self, get some rails). I couldn't move the DVD drive to the top slot, because its data cable wasn't long enough (note to self, get an extender cable). I couldn't move the drives to a higher spot in their special internal rack, because then their power cord bumps into the power cord for the video card. All of which, I eventually recalled, were discoveries past-Jon made the last time he had to crack that case. At least this time I came prepared with a bunch of Velcro cable-ties, and was able to get the cables looking less like Doctor Octopus threw up in there.
