Hey, parents of older-kids-than-mine: How (and if) are you teaching your kids to program?

(I learned how to write BASIC on a PDP-11. That experience will not be available to my daughter, for at least two reasons.)

LOL

Hadn't really considered it. My little girl's talents lean towards art; I'd be more likely to get her a Wacom tablet and an appropriate art application.

What are the 2 reasons?

I wouldn't teach my child old-style BASIC, and I wouldn't scrounge up a PDP-11 for this purpose.

I haven't been wanting to push programming at the kids. When the older expressed an interest in learning to make his own computer games I bought him a book specifically for newcomers, on writing games, in Python.

He then discovered that writing games was not as fun as playing them and gave it up as a bad business.

That said, I should try exposing him to Scratch and see how that goes...
