Arch West, creator of Doritos, died Tuesday at 97.

It's been said that Doritos are as integral to the roleplaying game experience as 20-sided dice and Mountain Dew. We are all drained one level by this loss.

I've never tasted Mountain Dew.

It tastes of citrus and desperation.

Dew was made with actual citrus, to the point of being a soda with pulp in it. And omg the kick from all that acidified caffeine.

I've never thought of you as being near the middle of the bell curve.

My gaming groups were more into the Pixie Stix than the Doritos. Still, I have a fond memory of introducing Doritos to my Flemish friends when I did my year in Belgium in the late 80's. Imagine giving Doritos to people who'd never even heard of them before (also kool-aid and oreos). They all got sick.

Good times.

RIP Mr. West.
