[livejournal.com profile] buxom_bey's water broke at 2am on August 24th. We were prepared — the main bag was already in the car, as was the car seat — so B., [livejournal.com profile] cathijosephine, and I were out the door in minutes, and at the hospital before 2:30.

There was a lot of testing and checks and such before they A) got us into the birthing room, and B) got an epidural into B. This is obviously a post-epidural shot:

Extreme close-up on the belly!

B.'s OB, Doctor Price, assisted by Anita, who took no guff.

A few minutes before 11am, we were parents.

Babies come with hats!

She had a good grip on her. This is minutes after delivery:

7 pounds, 15 ounces, and a full head of hair.

And ten toes.

While mom got cleaned up, new dad held his daughter.

Over in the nursery, they did some tests.

She had a lot to say about her first bath.

Baby's first Mohawk.

My folks visited us the first day.

Her crazy Uncle Nat came by on Thursday.

A bit later, B.'s father Tony and sister Courtney stopped by, having driven up from Louisiana (!).

Mom and Courtney.

Everyone got a clean bill of health, so we went home that evening. Here's her first time in the car seat.

And her first time through the front door.

She can be a very mild-mannered child.

She's prone to milk-coma after feeding.

[livejournal.com profile] ricevermicelli visited us on Friday, bringing food and her photogenic self.

We're making sure she gets plenty of belly-time. She recently started lifting her torso up!

B.'s mom arrived Friday night, and is staying with us for a couple weeks. She's been indispensible.

Her first checkup, on Saturday. All was well.

[livejournal.com profile] cathijosephine, "Auntie Z", is totally smitten with her.

When the baby-watcher needs to use the bathroom, the towel-bin is very convenient.

During a brief bout of crankiness, I found that swaddling calms her right down.

Baby's first trip to Target. Someone told B. that she (B.) looked way too good for someone who gave birth five days prior.

Testing out the slings at Diaper Lab in Somerville.

Auntie Em has visited several times.

B. sleeps the sleep of the new mama.

She's so tiny!

We went visiting yesterday, and Roo got to meet [livejournal.com profile] mizarchivist and Crimefighter.

"Mom, let me sleep! I don't have to go to school for six years!"

And then Li'l Nick Fury came to recruit her for the Li'l Avengers.

Full galleries are up here, sorted by date.

Thanks to (I believe) [livejournal.com profile] gnomi for the Nick Fury gag, and [livejournal.com profile] dana325 and [livejournal.com profile] kuragara for Nick himself. (Who is actually named for a different Marvel Comics eyepatch-wearing character!)

Awww, the cute! (But not the tiny. That, my friend, is no 2 pounds and fifteen ounces! O;> )

What, no APGAR score? O:D

She's beautiful! She looks as if she's taking everything in and trying to figure out what the hell this strange new place she's in is all about. (Hang in there, kid; I'm still working on that, and I'm old enough to be your grandmother!)

She's gorgeous!

And I'm glad you agree with my assessment of Nick Fury's value to a narrative.

Thank you for sharing!

My plan is to bring some food by tomorrow either for dinner for you all or the freezer (I signed up online). I'll call in the AM to find out what time is best(ish).

Thanks so much for making the time to post these. I'm sure there are many other demands on your time these days and I deeply appreciate getting to see those pictures.

Hugs to all three of you. Hugs to all four of you! Hugs all 'round!

Congrats...
