I realize that at age=3 days, any smile is just an experiment in flexing muscles.

Nevertheless, when Roo smiles, I feel like my head is going to pop off from sheer adorable.

I never believe the "it's just an experiment in flexing muscles" thing, m'self. I mean, if it just kind of happens while she's bored, yeah, that may be flexing muscles. The rest? I dunno -- it may be an experiment in bewitching the parents, instead! O:D

Wait until the first time she smiles at you on purpose and you know it. You'll do ANYTHING to get her to do it again. :-)

This will be greatly abated shortly after God puts odor in the poo-poo.

Not really!

(Although apparently fully breast-fed babies have much less stinkier poo, so that may've contributed to my overall "it's not as bad as what the cats produce" blase reaction.)

I've never believed it's just muscle flexing either. There's surely a difference between a social smile and a random one, but they make sure to tell parents of preemies that the baby smiles when the baby is happy. It's not like full-term babies have *less* facial muscle control.
