So, the Pan Am brand name is being resurrected for use in a TV show (by the Mad Men folk) and on merchandise. The name and logo is owned by a minor railroad company. I was amused by a quote from their Director of Branding, who sez, "Our hope is that everybody out there understands Pan Am in the way we do, and understands why it's so much more than an airline."

Lady, it's not an airline. You can tell by checking for planes in your yard.

I believe they have shipping contracts outstanding with several aircraft manufacturers.

So if you want a *really* slow flight...

As I saw the sneak preview at the mob on Sunday, and later buy my plane ticket via Airtran, I lament on the disintegration of commercial airlines.

Yeah, people have repeatedly tried to revive the airline, but it's really quite a hopeless task. Apparently one small subsidiary survives in the Dominican Republic.

They're all flying right now.
