With Regards To The DC Comics Revamp
Jun. 28th, 2011 02:26 pmDC Comics is doing a reboot of all their superhero titles, renumbering them at #1, and changing bits of character history as they deem necessary.
(They have, in fact, done this before at least three times that I can think of, though usually without renumbering everything.)
When things like this happen, I just remember the mantra of any long-time comics fan: This Too Shall Pass. DC and Marvel eternally vacillate between the Next Big Event and Back To Basics. All the classic elements will return in time.
For example, when Superman was rebooted in the mid-80s, they got rid of the following: Supergirl, Krypto the Super-Dog, the Bottle City of Kandor, his childhood career as Superboy, all colors of kryptonite except green, the Fortress of Solitude, the Phantom Zone, and his childhood friendship with Lex Luthor, to name just eight. The last of these to return to continuity was his childhood career as Superboy, and that's because DC was embroiled in a lawsuit about whether they owned the Superboy character.
Side note: The only exception to "This Too Shall Pass" is Sidekick Graduations Stick, the phenomenon where any sidekick who moves out from under their mentor's shadow stays out. Hence, none of the original Teen Titans are operating under their original names these days.
