Note To Self Re: Scary Movies
Jun. 24th, 2011 07:19 amNote to self: Yes, you're 42 years old. It's still a bad idea to watch The Grudge when B. and Z. are away and you're spending the night Alone in the House.
It's not so much that I spent the night twitching at every sound, but rather that I spent the night telling myself not to twitch at every sound. Which is a real but unhelpful distinction.

Date: 2011-06-24 06:19 pm (UTC)For me, I enjoy being creeped out, in controlled circumstances. There are also some supernatural horror films, where there are rules governing the supernatural elements (e.g., vampires are hurt by sunlight; werewolves are hurt by silver; the grudge only affects people who have been in the house), and it's intellectually interesting to see how those rules are used to put together a good film.
(Of course, there are about a dozen different kinds of horror movies, which I like to different degrees and for different reasons, but what I said above is a quick summary. Maybe I'll make a post about this.)

Date: 2011-06-25 05:32 pm (UTC)But I personally hate being scared. I avoid horror movies as best I can, and I try not to watch scary things. People think I am weird for this. I have enough REAL things I am scared of; I don't want more.
So, there are some of us out there that just don't watch horror movies and don't want to. I know other people want to, and that's fine. It's not for me.
