Note to self: Yes, you're 42 years old. It's still a bad idea to watch The Grudge when B. and Z. are away and you're spending the night Alone in the House.

It's not so much that I spent the night twitching at every sound, but rather that I spent the night telling myself not to twitch at every sound. Which is a real but unhelpful distinction.

Dude.
I'm twitching from the idea of watching The Grudge. Then again, gas masks on children scare me.

Yeah, this is not a MizA kind of movie.

Well, I don't regret watching the film. It was just rough getting to sleep.

See, this was the perfect chance for you to invite me over and then we could clutch each other in terror.

And we could have set up a webcam, and made a fortune off the yaoi crowd!

Why do people watch horror movies?

That's actually a very good question, which people smarter than us have long debated.

For me, I enjoy being creeped out, in controlled circumstances. There are also some supernatural horror films, where there are rules governing the supernatural elements (e.g., vampires are hurt by sunlight; werewolves are hurt by silver; the grudge only affects people who have been in the house), and it's intellectually interesting to see how those rules are used to put together a good film.

(Of course, there are about a dozen different kinds of horror movies, which I like to different degrees and for different reasons, but what I said above is a quick summary. Maybe I'll make a post about this.)

People tell me it's because they enjoy being scared.

But I personally hate being scared. I avoid horror movies as best I can, and I try not to watch scary things. People think I am weird for this. I have enough REAL things I am scared of; I don't want more.

So, there are some of us out there that just don't watch horror movies and don't want to. I know other people want to, and that's fine. It's not for me.
