Movies: Green Lantern
Jun. 20th, 2011 10:48 amThis is a very middle-of-the-road superhero film. I was entertained, and enjoyed all the fanbait (e.g., in the GL crowd scenes, every shot included at least a half-dozen recognizable GLs), but the movie needed a script doctor, and the two leads displayed the emotional gamut from A to C. And the astronomy is bad, unless there's an asteroid belt between Earth and the Sun that I don't know about. Of the three superhero movies I've seen this year, it comes in behind Thor, and well behind X-Men.
(It did help me find a new reason to appreciate Thor. Natalie Portman spends that movie wearing sensible clothes, not a series of objectifying-ly short skirts like Ms. Lively in GL.)
Edit: And apparently, the actor playing Tom Kalmaku (in the comics, an Inuit) is Maori. I have no idea how to react to that.

original ring was powerless against wood. That's probably why this
movie's downfall was primarily Ryan Reynolds' dramatic acting. "
