Whenever I see a movie review I don't like, I remind myself: Professional criticism (movie, theater, book, wadeva) is a field that doesn't pay very well (since thousands of people do it for free, it's regarded as a "fun" career, and the greater media industry is having cash-flow problems), and has few entry requirements (beyond the abilty to perceive the work in question and write a coherent paragraph about it).
Therefore, it's a mistake to expect most criticism to be good. You get what you pay for.
