I've noticed, after years of fixing, debugging, and yelling at assorted networked applications, that at least half of all problems are basically permissions issues.
(I was reminded of this when parts of our Sharepoint server stopped working. I quoted the above to my boss, but it wasn't until 8pm that night that he realized the problem was he'd, by default, set one of the accounts involved to "Must Change Password On Next Login", thus effectively disabling the account.)
