We came home yesterday to discover an unexpected package for [livejournal.com profile] cathijosephine on our porch. Turns out, her application was accepted for the Google Chrome Pilot Program, and they'd sent her a free netbook. Dude!

Physically, it's dead sexy, in a very minimalist way. It's totally matte black, mildly rubberized, and completely devoid of logos or any lettering at all accept on the keyboard. The capslock key is gone, replaced with a search key. It's a dedicated netbrick-cloud-computing-browser-only machine, so it basically does not do anything if you don't have net connectivity (for the Pilot Program it comes with a subsidized 3G connection).

I've only played with it briefly. I kept trying to minimize the browser, ha ha.

It'll be interesting to see if this niche survives.

They can have my local computational capacity when they pry it from my cold, dead fingers.
