Hey, people of a male and large-footed persuasion: What kind of snow boots do you recommend? (My current pair have started leaking, and tend to tug down my socks.)
I am neither male nor large-footed, but I'm also looking at new winter boots, and have been giving serious thought to Sorel Caribou boots, which are made for men as well as women. I've been hearing a LOT of recommendations for Sorel boots in general, including from friends and family who live in damned cold, damned snowy areas. They're said to last for a very long time. The men's Caribou style comes in up to a size 17.
Sorels are awesome. Just pay attention to the style of sole. The pair I bought has nubby soles, which are great in snow and totally useless on ice. A lug sole is probably more versatile.
I rarely (never, actually) buy "snow boots". I learned a long time ago that good hiking boots and thick socks work much better for me. And last longer too (it was two years ago that I finally decided I should replace the pair I started wearing in high school).
My husband, who has size 13 male feet, has had great luck w Georgia Boot brand boots. They're good for snow and hiking, durable, and have excellent traction. FWIW, I also have a pair that I'm very happy with. The boots are about 3 years old now.
I've still got my originally-issued pair of waterproof ICB's. They've only now - eleven years later - developed a very minor leak. These days the issued boots are brown suede, but you can still get the black top grain boots online. The original manufacturer Belleville seems to be gone, but Bates, Altama and Wellco all make an identical boot.
I bought Sorels in Montreal after noticing that everyone trudging through the blizzard we were experiencing was wearing them. They've been great. The insulation is particularly good for when I have to stand outside for any length of time.
Caribou. The only thing I'd change about them is they're way too big without the insulation footie. Otherwise I'd use them for any time I had to go tramping somewhere wet.
I just use my Double-H jump boots or my Doc Martens as my snow boots, and vary the socks. Time to scrub off the road salt and apply a new layer of Wonder Balsam, at that.
I am a size 12 1/2 or 13, depending on the manufacturer. I currently use a pair of gortex lined combat boots. With good socks, my feet stay warm and dry under almost any conditions. I do not recall the manufacturer, but can check if you are interested.

A quick web search should fix that, though.
