(Ordinarily, I'd be having this conversation with [livejournal.com profile] buxom_bey, but she's still in bed, 'cause she's on vacation. Damn her.)

So, here is a fellow Transformer fan's display case.

(The fan in question.)

(The case was apparently left behind by a previous tenant.)

I get this. I can relate. I expect to pick up a cheap china cabinet for some of my toys some day, too.

What pushes this over the edge? These are all toys of the same character. These are every toy of the same character, except the one that's not coming out until next year.

There is a line bewteen fanboy and crazy, and I only know which side of it I'm on because of moments like this.

Oh! I wasn't looking at the title and for a minute I thought he was all about Bumblebee, which takes you from crazy straight to deranged psychopath.

I'm not sure that being able to point to someone who is crazier than you is a guarantee that you're still sane.

But I'm glad you're not that far gone yet.

But that page says he's a fan artist working on official stuff. Does that make him slightly less crazy?

Yyyeah, that doesn't look good for my R2D2 collection habit. Though in my defense, I'm planning on purging some of it, and I don't have a shrine...

I used to have a Dalek collection, but nothing even vaguely like this scale...

And a can of bug killer on top, too. Oh, never mind, that's a play on a TF character name. Clever. I guess.

I would disagree that focusing his collecting on one character makes him crazier than a general-interest collector! When collecting or antiquing, it's important to have a specialty- I know someone who collects decorative plates, but only red ones with a picture of a thatched-roof house on it. This is a great way to avoid bankruptcy. OTOH, the compulsion to own one of every version of this robot ever manufactured might be a little crazy. ---Nat
