Arisia 2008
Jan. 23rd, 2008 10:29 pmDefinitely a good weekend.
Panel-wise, they mostly went great. The four I immodestly moderated (Roleplaying Villains, Secret Identities in Comics, Morality in Roleplaying, and Out and Poly) all were very successful. For the Roleplaying Villains panel, I actually had to send out for more chairs, and
minkrose and
blondbaron asked me to host a reprise panel for them and a couple of their friends the next day, since they'd missed the first one. The two panels which I did not moderate were both perfectly acceptable, with Secrets of the Illuminati being helped quite a bit by the presence of Shava Nerad, who actually knew Robert Anton Wilson. Between the two of us we had a lot of good info, from both points of view, about the SJGames-RAW relationship.
I remain a fan of the hotel, though I grant that having the art show at the top of the hotel is not ideal, especially with the show's abbreviated hours. I didn't get to see it.
I wish to applaud
tamidon for keeping a reasonable quantity of food available. If I needed a snack between meals, or a bottle of water, I could usually get one from the con suite or green room.
I definitely wish to applaud our noble con chair,
cintyber. Sunday morning, I had a date scheduled with
leofwynn, and was supposed to pick her up at her room, but didn't have the room number (except for the floor), and was wandering the floor while trying to call someone with her number. The Chair came out of her room, over to the elevator, asked me how I was enjoying the con. I said, "Great, except I can't find my date's room." Being a full-service con chair, she got the name from me, and popped back into her room to look it up for me. That's service. (And the ensuing date was delightful.)
Had brunch on Sunday at the Blue Room in Kendall with
fotofile2002,
kuragara,
dana325, and sundry. Ye gods, but that restaurant puts on a good spread. We're gonna do that again.
Spent a fair bit of the con hanging out at a good socializing/people-watching spot on the second floor, which someone eventually dubbed "The Cool Kids' Table". Given that I was never an actual Cool Kid back when I was a Kid, this delights me to an inappropriate degree.
In the position of honor at the end of the recap, I also had an at-con date with
mizarchivist, which left us both smug and glowy. I am very blessed.
So, yeah, good con.

but jon, you ARE cool.
