Here is the resort we stayed at in Cancun (centered more-or-less on our room).

As you get off the shuttle from the airport, they greet you with cool damp towels, to wipe away the sweat of your travels . . .

The front doors were on a motion sensor switch. opening magically as you approached them.

One of the ten or so bars scattered around the resort.

Our room, complete with rose petals and towels in the shape of swans. Or possibly peacocks.

And a bottle of champagne on ice, waiting for us.

The little hut is basically a shaded poolside bed. The square thingy beyond it is one of the outside bars. This one had a self-serve soft-serve ice cream machine.

Our room was the top one on the corner.

The gift shop. Liquor bottles in the shape of pirate pistols. The Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, and Firearms would be all over that.

Alas, we never actually used the giant outside chess set . . .

. . . But we did use the merely-oversized indoor chess sets.

If one got up early, one could watch the cruise ships departing Cancun for points south.

When the maids were having a good day, their attention to detail was delightful.

The chandeliers were eccentric. More later in the Cancun Food Porn post.

Bey relaxes after a hard week vacationing.

Just so people don't get too jealous, their was a minor ant problem, the quality of the maid service was kinda tip-dependent, and the tap water, though it probably wouldn't make you sick, was still iffy. And if you ordered "Sprite" or "Bailey's", what you sometimes got was not-quite-Sprite, or not-quite-Bailey's. But we'd still go back in a heartbeat.
