-Near as I can tell, the only thing I'd seen that got nominated for anything was "No Time For Nuts". It didn't win. I need to NetFlix some of the winners.

-Me bro asked me what the last movie I'd seen in the theater was. I umm'd and hmm'd and thought for a minute, and then said, "Uh, Fantastic Four?" He gave me a look indicating that he was shamed to call me brother. "Hey," I retorted, "theaters have rude strangers in them. At home, at least the rudeness comes from people I know."

theaters have rude strangers in them.

That's more or less my opinion, too.

Yeah. Rude strangers I can't smack in the back of the head, but I still have to pay over $10 for the experience of seeing the film on the big screen. Plus parking and stress. Hmm... I tend not to see a lot of movies in the theater. I tend not to see enough of them, period. But I should update my Netflix account, too.

Pan's Labyrinth is worth seeing on the big screen. Really.

Shamed? No!

I did not mean to give you a shamed look, honestly.
In fact, I've had a bit of a movie-going conversion lately, and I wish to take back that entire conversation. I have been going to the movies 35-45 times per year for 10+ years, and I have gotten sick of paying $10 per ticket for mediocre movies. I don't have many bad audience experiences lately (but I'm never going to the Revere theater ever again) and there's hardly a bad seat in the house anymore (I was X-Men 3 from the third row and the movie was perfectly viewable). I have pledged to reduce my moviegoing in 2007, and save my money for movies that are worth seeing on a giant screen, and save the mediocre or small movies for DVD.
I have reviewed my online diary, and here's 11 movies which came out since FF. Some great, some good, all worth seeing on a giant screen:

Serenity
Harry Potter 4
King Kong
Narnia
V for Vendetta
X Men 3
Pirates 2
Superman Returns
The Departed
Casino Royale
Pan's Labyrinth

All these movies weren't great, Superman and Pirates have mind-blowing effects which are wasted on your puny TV. There were a bunch of other movies in the last 18 months which would be perfectly good on DVD...

[smile] Thank you. Your list has actually helped refresh my memory. Of those listed, I saw Serenity, Potter 4, King Kong, Narnia, V, X3, Pirates 2, and Superman Returns in the theater, so I'm actaully not doing as bad as I thought.
