Vellum Opinions?

woodwardiocom-Anyone out there got an opinion on the book Vellum by Hal Duncan? It caught my eye in the bookstore ('cause, hey, it's got book-fetishism in it), but I don't know the author, and the reviews at Amazon are not entirely kind.
