-Saturday was the (beautiful) wedding of Annie/
asciikitty and Tom/
bluegargantua. Here is the toast I gave, as best as I can remember it (and slightly upgraded to what I meant to say, in spots):
"When I was in college, I was stage crew for a production of Shakespeare's Tempest. The production was a little unconventional, in that they added a romantic subplot between Prospero and Ariel. This is a very tricky romance to bring to fruition, considering how they met. But they tried to find a way to live and love together and, at the end of the play, Prospero's famous soliloquy, which is usually delivered to the audience, was instead delivered to Ariel. He tells her he will cast aside his books, and break his rod, if only she will release him from his loneliness. And they kiss.
"This makes me think of Tom and Annie for three reasons. First, Tom is now working for a company called Prospero. [grin] Second, Tom and Annie very much fit, for me, the roles of Prospero and Ariel. Tom is tall and wise — "
"And insane!" interjects Tom.
" — and insane, and has his magic. And a weird sense of humor. And Annie is a sprite, and powerful, and beautiful, and a little scary sometimes. And other good things. And the two of them have worked hard on this relationship, which hasn't been without its hiccups. But here they are today, and it's magic. And I believe all their days together will be full of that magic. To Tom and Annie. [clink]"
