Having been on LJ for over 3 years, one would think I would know this, but what exactly is Arisa? I mean, I know it is a con, but what is it for?

It is a secret magical incantation for bringing snow to Boston. Last year, due to a one-week delay in the con, the incantation was extra-powerful. This year, to compensate, there was only a light dusting on Sunday.

Heh.

It's a Boston-area science fiction convention, with a fair amount of anime/media/costuming/fannish social stuff content, as opposed to the more literary-focused Boskone, the purely-literary Readercon, and the heavily anime/gaming focused Harvard student-run Vericon.

This year's Arisia had a number of LJ/blogging related panels and events, including a presentation of an anthropology paper and a very crowded meetup.

-Well, apart from the stuff you can learn at the website, Arisia is just a general-purpose SF con. It's not media-oriented or book-oriented or costume-oriented. It has some quirks, reflecting the quirks of the regular attendees. (Like, it usually has panels on polyamory these days.)

-For me, Arisia is the opportunity to hang out with a lot of friends.

It had a panel on monogamy, too! (Which I was on.)

Yeah -- I tend to only see a lot of people at Arisia, and dangit, I wanna get back to gaming with some of them!

Also, a kid I first met as, well, a kid... has grown up to look like a movie star. OMGWOW. Some fannish girl (or, depending on the mode of everyone concerned, several) needs to overcome his shyness and drag him back to her hotel room forever and ever.

It was fun running into you. When I feel human again, I'll transfer the pictures from my camera to my PC and then my scrapbook. The one of you with the lovely ladies at Cris's party is rather cute.
