To Quote Cordelia, "Bee-Like"
Dec. 28th, 2003 05:50 pm-Lemme see, Tuesday I had dinner with my dear friend Laura. Good Mexican food, good talk, brief bit of shopping. I adore the lady (in an 80% Platonic way, I should clarify).
-Wednesday I finished prepping the cheese biscuit dough and made the mashed potatoes, which were so good I was licking the spoon. Packed up the food, presents, and persistent cough and trundled off to the 'rents. Attended mom's 8pm Xmas Eve service (mom is an Episcopalian priest, for those not in the know). As expected, there were bits where I was touched and bits where I was exocranially bored. Mom did a brilliant sermon, but a lot of an Episcopalian service is "use script A with prayers G and H, readings K and L, and hymnns P and Q." After attending a few hundred of those while growing up I'm not getting much new out of them.
-Slept soundly, under the same roof as my folks and my two sibs. Haven't done that in a while -- counting sib-in-law, might not have done that before, period. Xmas day was good presents, good conversation, and mostly good food. My cheese biscuits caused a bit of a smoke problem. I left the butter chunky to make the biscuits fluffier, but since I cooked them on a tray with no lip, the butter mostly melted, ran off the sides, and fell on the heating elements. Still, they were edible, and Dad liked them. We didn't get to the mashed potatoes, though. Next time I'll make them on-site and none will be able to resist.
-Came home and vegged for the better part of two days. Had a delightful date with Jen (who I adore in an 80% non-Platonic way), and gave her her presents to much rejoicing. Today I've been buckling down to writing, eBaying, getting rid of this cold, and finding a job.
