Thanksgiving

-Before my family ('rents, sibs, bro-in-law) sits down to eat, we say grace. Despite the fact that my mom is a priest (and was nearly a bishop, for cryin' out loud), our graces tend to be a bit ad hoc, with everyone throwing in their bit unprompted. The one that always resonates for me is my father's:

Keep us always mindful of the needs of others.

Prayers are almost always ad hoc in the tradition I grew up in. Even the service closing prayer was usually composed on the spot by some elder selected at random.
