-Took Jen/[livejournal.com profile] anotherjen to see Return of the King today. My second viewing in the theater. I was more affected by it this time; serious misting of the optics occurred during "I am no man," "You bow to no one," and the Grey Havens, to name but three. I have said this before, but it bears repeating: I think Jackson's LotR movies have their flaws, but I also think that better movies based on Tolkien's books would have to be handed down directly as a gift from God. "I BRING YOU THESE TEN COMMANDMENTS: ONE: THOU SHALT NOT IMPUGN FARAMIR'S CHARACTER. TWO: THE SCOURING? IT GOES BACK IN. THREE..."

-Having been part of geek social circles all my life, I know many people who are huge Tolkien geeks. It's a bit surprising to realize that I'm a moderately large one myself. Had to restrain myself from whispering pointless trivia in Jen's ear, like "The batterimg ram is named 'Grond' after Morgoth's mace." (To which she no doubt would have replied, "Who the heck is Morgoth?")

-Oh, and I think I noticed that, when Aragorn first looks down the path of the dead, there are faint ghostly figures in the far distance. Almost impossible to see even on the big screen.
