-So, before I head up to Salem, I call Bey's home number, to make sure she didn't change her travel plans. I get her machine, that's good. I don't leave a message.

-I drive up, I park in front of her place, I call again, to double-check. Get the machine again. No worries. I set to work on the weeding.

[ring, ring] Uh-oh. "Hey Jon, I'm in Flordia, what's so urgent?"

[not thinking fast]

"Uh, what?"

"Jon, this is Bey. You called me twice. What's up?"

[thinking faster]

"Sorry, I didn't mean to call you, I hit the wrong number."

"Okay, well, I'm on a plane, so I'm going to cut this short. Bye."

"Okay, bye."

-So, that's her cell number, not her home number. Better make a note of that. And I'm thinking:

-Good News: She is in fact on a plane, not home or near to home.

-Bad News: She probably thinks I've gone all stalker-boy on her, calling and hanging up and such.

-Also Bad: When she sees the work that's been done, my name is probably gonna spring to mind . . .

-Hmm, if she calls, do I deny everything, or say, "I really intended for this to stay secret a lot longer . . . "?

(Oh, and the place looks much improved.)
