Busy Tuesday

-Plan for today was: 3:00, interview at Bose; afterwards, Diesel. But, early this morning, Hannah/
watercolorblue emails, asks if I can give her a lift to and from old place to bring last of stuff to new place, circa 6ish. No prob, sez I. Then, left the house around 1:45 for interview in Frickin' Stow, spent an hour on assorted interstates. Am pulling into parking lot, when I get call from former housemate Darlene/
darlene_ford. She's moving today, and needs help. (I would have already volunteered, but I considered today booked, what with interview and all.) I stare at my schedule, and decide there may be room between end of interview and established committment to Hannah. Promise to call after interview.
-Interview goes swimmingly. Judging by the contrast between her first and last names, the very cute green-eyed black-haired hiring manager is half-Japanese, half-European, and a serious argument for More Biracial People, Please, 'Cause They're Hot. Spoke to her and the guy who will be my tech resource, and apparently wowed them, because they not only said, "Can you start after Labor Day?" but also, "And we may have other things for you to do." Me all dressed up sometimes has that effect on people. Wore my standard interview outfit: Beige blazer, blue buttondown, blue tie, black pants, black wingtips, freshly-trimmed goatee.
-Afterwards, tried to make contact with Darlene, failed, ran some quick errands, tried again, got word to "Come on over, please." The drive from Frickin' Stow to her place took a full hour and a half (no interstates on that path), so I get there just at 5pm. I explain the situation to her, change into civvies, help as much as I possibly can for one hour, then speak the five words no one who I have just helped move can say no to: Can I Use Your Shower?
-I shower, reapply interview finery (so as to test its effect on the Diesel crowd), and rendezvous with Hannah. Her remaining gear consists of only four bags, so it goes quickly. I finally make it to Diesel, at 7pm.
-At which I have a very good time. Flirted outrageously with Michelle/
alcinoe, called Aliza/
ragingamazon on her teasin' ways (though her ways are fortunately quite entertaining), chatted with Diesel newcomer Tom (who was really delighted to realize the community was so huge), got sat on by Jen/
anotherjen's daughter Ilana (who remains an impetuous blond), saw Spike/
yagagriswold for the first time in ages, et cetera, et cetera. My interview outfit elicited various comments, such as, "You clean up good," "Mrow!" "You look like a history teacher," and "You look comical." So, mixed reviews.
-And now I'm home. Things are good: I have a two-week gig lined up, I have many friends, and I have a bottle of Mountain Dew Pitch Black ("The drink for very alert goths.") in the fridge to try in the morning.
