-So, I just received the Hellboy movie 2-Disc Special Edition from Amazon.com. This was pretty much a no-brainer for me, purchase-wise. And, of course, I wanted the most-complete, special edition, not (for example) a regular pan-and-scan edition or what-have-you.

-But. There's a $5 coupon in the back for the Hellboy Director's Cut Edition. What I have is just the "special edition" of the theatrical cut.

-Dammit, they got me. Next time, more research is indicated.

You loss is, I suppose, my gain - I've yetto buy either edition. Does it say when the Director's Cut is coming out?

As a possible upside, maybe the Director's Cut isn't as good as the theatrical version. I found that to be true with Army of Darkness, for instance.

I've watched the DVD five or six times since getting it, and will probably watch it a few more times before October, so I don't feel too bad. But I felt the same way as you did upon opening it up and seeing that coupon. "I don't want a coupon. I want an up-front answer."
