Lego: How Much Is Too Much
Jul. 15th, 2013 03:09 pmI've often wondered (not entirely hypothetically!) how deep a bin of Lego bricks would have to be before the bottom ones started getting crushed.
Turns out, a Dr. Ian Johnson and his team did some related calculations. By testing one brick to destruction, they determined that a stack of 2×2 bricks would need to be 3.5 kilometers tall to crush the bottom brick. An empirical test appears to be impractical, but I don't think I have anything to worry about with my Lego bins, seeing as they're no more than a few feet deep.
