Up and Down

-Today is my last day at my current job. Tomorrow begins a week's vacation (which is even kinda paid-vacation, since I had some unused vacation days), and next Wednesday I start my new job.

-And yet, oddly, I'm feeling a bit grumpy. Hmm. Probably just the weather. Tonight I wll buy comics, eat something fattening, stay up late, and sleep in. That'll fix me.

The Day I Leave My Camera at Home

-Walking into the building this morning, the rain runoff was, of course, chock full o' yellow pollen. Which, for some arcane reason probably relating to water-tension, had formed this vast vaguely-Mandelbrot-looking pattern of triangles and crevices. Wish I'd had my camera . . .

If This is My Life, How Come I Don't Recognize It?

-It used to be, when I saw a pretty woman, I'd think, "She is so out of my league."

-About a year ago, that thought process changed to, "She is so out of my league. But, based on recent data, I'm not sure I believe in 'leagues' any more."

-A couple times, in the past few months, the thought process has actually extended to, "She is so out of my league. But, I'm not sure I believe in 'leagues'. Oh, and, I'm dating her."

-Remember these books?



-The cover art for those books is probably responsible for, oh, 50% of the modern RPG industry. Giant flaming demons. Weird monsters. Scantily clad warriors.

-The artist who created those covers was David C. Sutherland III. He died last week from liver problems, far too young. While his art wasn't always brilliant, he nevertheless created some of the iconic images of the RPG hobby. He also did a lot (a lot) of map work for D&D, as his credits list shows.

-So long, David. Watch out for the giant flaming demons.

-Same-sex military wedding (Canada).

-Any time I worry about the direction things are going in the world, I remind myself that progress is often made in tiny increments. Often, one wedding at a time.
