-Yesterday, [livejournal.com profile] buxom_bey, aided by numerous others, threw a surprise birthday party for me. I'd rate it as one of the best days of my life. Thank you, Bey. Thank you, everyone.

-More later; tired now.

Surprise

-So, yesterday I spend the early afternoon helping Annie/[livejournal.com profile] asciikitty pack, after which we drive up to Bey/[livejournal.com profile] buxom_bey's place for her Mem. Day cookout. Which, it turns out, is also a surprise birthday party for me. I am delighted to see so many of my friends there, and flabbergasted that my mother is there. (The rest of my immediate family was unavailable.) The guests included [livejournal.com profile] ariesd, [livejournal.com profile] bluegargantua, Zeph/[livejournal.com profile] cathijosephine, [livejournal.com profile] darxus, [livejournal.com profile] katkt, [livejournal.com profile] nchanter, [livejournal.com profile] omly, [livejournal.com profile] ricevermicelli, [livejournal.com profile] supercheesegirl, [livejournal.com profile] superfinemind, [livejournal.com profile] sweetmmeblue (and family), [livejournal.com profile] taura_g, [livejournal.com profile] water_childe, and many other lovely people whose LJ names I don't have immediately at hand. And, special guest star, the sun, which had been a no-show for the previous week. And we ate grilled meat, shmoozed, had cake and ice cream, piled inside and onto the couches when it got dark, watched silly British sitcoms, and in general simply enjoyed everyone's delightful company. My mother restrained herself from telling stories about me, and instead told tales from her trip around the world. After she left, people were asking if she would be open to adopting them. And, when she and I debriefed each other about the party today, she had nothing but glowing things to say about everyone, particularly Bey and Zeph (I introduced her to Zeph-qua-girlfriend at this party).

-I am simply overwhelmed by the effort Bey put into making yesterday a special one for me, and I want her to know that I hope I can repay a tenth part of her kindness. And to everyone who came and helped, thank you. If a man's wealth is measured by the quality of his friends, then I surely sleep on a bed of gold.

-The subject of Perdido Street Station came up at the party (as [livejournal.com profile] superfinemind gave me a copy of The Scar, [gratitude]), and [livejournal.com profile] water_childe pondered what a slake moth really looks like. Not many artists seem to have taken the challenge. This is all a Google image search turned up.
