Not Too Exhausted to Post to LJ, Though
Jul. 22nd, 2004 12:30 am-So, Tuesday the job situation stabilized. The short-term contract at Bose is a go, the long-term contract at Company T is not. So, eh. I'm not going to be paying off my debts with a short-term contract, but the money will definitely improve my finances through the fall. I will be working at Bose full time for 2 to 4 weeks, probably starting on the 26th.
-Tuesday night, drove up to Salem to see Bey/
buxom_bey. We went to Harrison's for Miniature Painting Night, and I worked on Laios, the half-elf archer I'm playing in my D&D game. Wanted to make his cape look like chimera wings (the party recently killed a chimera, and I kept the wings). Got a very interesting effect with a beige base, and a bit of sponge dipped in black paint. Doesn't look exactly like the Monster Manual picture, but it's spectacular woodland camouflage, so no worries.
-Bey's friend Keith showed up at Harrison's, and when we wrapped up we went over to Bey's house. Bey's good friend Kris/
nchanter met us there. Bey had some leftover steak tips and chicken wings and kabobs, so she grilled them up and we gorged ourselves. Keith had to leave at that point, so Bey and Kris and I played Munchkin while gabbing about this 'n that. Bey beat us soundly. More conversation ensued, and Kris and I got along smashingly. As a good hostess, Bey was pleased -- she likes it when her friends like each other.
-It was late by this point, and I was an hour from home, so I spent the night, finally sleeping in a spare bed after Bey (again, good hostess) refused to let me sleep on the couch. Woke up early, quietly showered so as not to disturb, and went to the local bakery to get croissants and muffins. They woke up eventually. Bey had to go to work, so Kris and I chatted over chocolate croissants about families, then went out to face the day and the traffic.
-My first stop was Harvard Square, for comics and the D&D Epic Level Handbook and Uno's chicken thumb platter whilst reading comics. Found it almost impossible to shake a feeling of cosmic well-being, as if the existence of strife on this verdant globe was inexplicable. After lunch, drove out to Somerville to see Jen/
anotherjen for our Wednesday date. I updated her on events and we cuddled and ran errands and watched TV and generally had a relaxed time, trying to avoid the crushing humidity. Sense of well-being went up accordingly. Then went to OPN and contentedly chatted with friends old and new (hi, Melissa/
missamay).
-And now I'm home, generally exhausted (didn't get enough sleep last night), but still suffering from that cosmic well-being thing. The past two days saw games and good food and quiet conversation and geekery and cuddling and friends and more. By way of illustration: Earlier today I responded to a "How you doing?" query with my standard "Can't complain." I sometimes get the comeback, "Well, you could." Today my most likely response would have been, "No, given the kindnesses that have been showered down on me recently by a munificent god, if I complained he would surely strike me down with a bolt of holy wrath out of a clear blue sky, ungrateful wight that I would be." Life is good.
